Libs Elliott 'Weight of Love' workshop

So with extreme excitement, we have booked the fabulous Libs Elliott to teach a workshop at the Montreal Modern Quilt Guild on March 19th. It was a tough decision as to which workshop to choose, but finally popular opinion tipped in favor of the Weight of Love workshop.

If you are a member of the MMQG and are interested in attending, run don't walk to the MQG Group forum post for details and the sign up sheet. As of this posting we only have a few spots left! In order to secure your spot, you must bring your payment to either the Feb 6th Sew-In or to the Feb 9th meeting. Our resident craft supply magician, Craft de Ville, is working on stocking the supplies needed for the workshop, so make sure you have set up an MMQG member account with them to take advantage of the guild discount and free meeting delivery!

If you are not a member but are interested in participating, please send us an email to be put on the waitlist. If we have any spots left unclaimed/unpaid, we will open them up to everyone on a first-come-first-served basis at the beginning of March. We will send out an email with more information when the time comes.

Very much looking forward to what promises to be a fantastic workshop!

Molinari Quilt Challenge

Hello all,

As promised, last night we presented the latest quilt challenge. The inspiration is the oeuvres of Guido Molinari, a Montreal artist of the Plasticiens movement, and will draw from his focus on the perception of colour, as well as the precision of his lines / colour division.

For the aspect of colour perception, there is no need to limit to solids, if you have an idea of how to use prints, and or stitching, to explore the topic, go right ahead.

For the aspect of precision, take it as a chance for improving your techniques. I know I will!!!

I will have my copy of an exhibition catalogue from a retrospective at the MAC, which I will bring to each meeting, in case you want to take a look. However the Fondation Guido Moinari has some excellent images on their site (http://fondationguidomolinari.org/en/the-foundation/collection/), and a google image search is another good way to find inspiration.

The dimensions will be limited to 30" x 40", 40" x 30", or if you're desperate, or your design requires it, there is also the option of a square 40" x 40".

The quilt top will be expected for the June meeting, and the completed quilt for the September meeting, giving us all the summer to get things done. ;-)

So be creative, let your fear of colour go, and dive right in!
Happy stitching!
